Legends of Texas-Tom Green

Legends of Texas-Tom Green
Tom Green: Early Life and Education Tom Green was born in Virginia on June 8, 1814. His family soon moved to Tennessee, where he spent his childhood. Being that his father was an educated man, he saw to it that his son was also educated. Green attended Jackson College in Tennessee and Princeton College in Kentucky. He eventually graduated from the University of Tennessee. After graduating, he studied law under his father who was a Supreme Court judge in Tennessee. After a year of legal studies, he left Tennessee to join the Texans in their struggle for independence. When the 21-year old Tom Green arrived in Texas, he immediately enlisted in the Texas army at Nacogdoches, only a few months before the Battle of San Jacinto. He served under Thomas J. Rusk. At that historic battle, Green helped man one of the “Twin Sisters” artillery pieces. The Republic of Texas Years When the 21-year old Tom Green arrived in Texas, he immediately enlisted in the Texas army at Nacogdoches, as a private. He was considered part of the regular Texas army and took an oath of allegience to the Republic of Texas. With the Battle at San Jacinto ended the Texians rejoiced at the victory over both the Mexican army and the capture of the tyrant Santa Anna. Many of the Texas soldiers considered General Houston’s treatment of his captive too accommodating considering the ethnic cleansing he performed at Tampico, Goliad and the Alamo. Many of the Texians believed that Santa Anna needed to be executed for his crimes. Tom Green led a group of those volunteers on a mission to do something about the situation. While Santa Anna was being held aboard a vessel docked outside the city of Velasco, Green led a group in boarding the ship. Upon encountering Santa Anna, they placed manacles on him and led him ashore while threatening his execution. It was only through the direct intervention of Thomas Rusk and General Sam Houston that Santa Anna was returned to Republic of Texas officials. After the Velasco episode, Green returned to Tennessee. While in Tennessee, he received word that as a veteran of the Texas Independence War, he was entitled to land in Texas, so he returned to the Republic of Texas. Since he was one of the most educated men in Texas...

How much do you really love Texas and the South?...

How much do you really love Texas and the South?
It is easy to post articles and comments on stories dear to Texas and Southern Independence. As Texans and Southrons, we often talk tough, yet often talk is cheap. When it comes time to show support in terms of independence issues, there is very weak follow through. Sure we can choose to ‘like’ something and get traffic, but will you attend meetings? Will you talk to others about Independence? Will you buy products, books and items that support Independence? Will you write book reviews on Amazon for Southern writers? Books like The Grey Book, The South Was Right and Tom Green’s Texas (Secession) books do not have many Southrons reviewing them. Instead, we talk about independence, but do not show our support for independence. We push the like button, since it is easy rather than take the effort to write supportive reviews that could encourage many fence sitters to take action. You may not be a good talker or be able to socialize at gun shows or other recruiting events, but you can write book reviews for Southron writers. Go out and support the works of Clyde Wilson, Mike Tuggle, Thomas Fleming, Tom Green, Donnie Kennedy, Michael Hill, and others. While you are at it, write reviews of the CD’s and albums with Southron songs, like Bobby Horton. Write positive reviews for Southron movies. If you want more of them, let Amazon and other sites know it. When you do that it is like yelling a thunderous “Yee-Haw” and “Let’s Hear it for Dixie!”. Such things encourage the writers and songwriters that preserve our history and culture. The time is now upon you to make your voice heard. “Let’s hear it for Dixie!” needs to mean something. It is easy to gripe about Hollywood and the tripe it produces. It takes effort to change that, including your efforts in this cultural...

Has Obama already responded to the Texas Secession Petition?...

Has Obama already responded to the Texas Secession Petition?
With the present regime, it is necessary to look at what they do and not the smoke and mirrors of what they say. With their actions, the Obama regime may have already responded. How? you may ask. The answer lies in the creation of more debt. All the talk about extending the debt limit is not just about economics. It is about creating such a giant hole of debt that no State can ever leave from. Whether or not it is intentional or unintentional, the regime is taking steps making it harder for Texas to leave peacefully. The regime has answered with their actions. They are not only saying “NO”, they are saying “We are taking you to the depths of Hell NO!” The actions and arrogance of the regime is of a nihilistic sort. They are taking the empire to financial hell in a handbag rather than listen to the people. What makes it worse is that many of the republican politicoes are selling out for their bowl of porridge. They are not fighting for us, but rather for themselves and their own personal affluence. Unless there are major changes in the next few weeks, the answer from the regime is clear. It is also clear that they have not studied their history. When we left before, it was after an election. It also only took us between 90-120 days to make it happen. Instead of being taken deeper in debt, we need sound economic policies. You can not tax yourself or spend yourself to prosperity. Liberty for...

Indoctrination, not education

Indoctrination, not education
have often said that “First they came for the Confederates, then the Founding Fathers and then finally the Christians”. At first, my comments was just an observation on the patterns of the Nazi regime in Germany as elaborated by Dietrich Bonhoffer. (Bonhoffer said, “First they came for the Communists, but I was not a Communist so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Socialists and the Trade Unionists, but I was neither, so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew so I did not speak out. And when they came for me, there was no one left to speak out for me.”) My variant on Bonhoffer has proven truer than I would like. It was in the news that at a Texas school, the Boston Tea Party participants were portrayed as ‘terrorists’. It shouldn’t surprise me, being that this approach was forwarded by the Texas Education Service Center Curriculum Collaborative (When the name includes the term collaborative or collective in its title, you know its orientation). It is tragic that our sons and daughters are being misled by their teachers. When I see stories like this, I do not feel bad about reduced school budgets. If they are presenting such garbage as ‘education’, the budgets need to be cut. What is being presented is indoctrination, NOT education. What I read of the article is not even factually correct. The patriots involved had already purchased the tea. It was their property that was being destroyed, not someone else’s. There was no terrorism involved in the Boston Tea Party. Such lesson plans present the founding of the Republic as a terrorist act, which it was not. It ridicules the founding fathers and their ideas. It indoctrinates children to dismiss the founding documents. I hope that those of you who have your children in the government indoctrination centers consider the ramifications of what is going on. Instead of having your children brain-washed, they need truth and liberty. Liberty for Texas! J...

Propaganda and Ken Burns

Propaganda and Ken Burns
Documentary Propaganda maker, Ken Burns weighed in on the secession issue. It should not amaze you that he makes the preposterous claim that secession is about ‘racism’. It was bad enough that he distorted and bent history with his propaganda, now he wants to claim that wanting to leave a corrupt empire is about ‘racism’. If this is a taste of his analysis of current political issues, it is no wonder he does such a hatchet job with his propaganda films. His name calling should not surprise us, since many of the liberal Yankee establishment wants to pigeon hole every speech, or action that may lead to increased liberty as a form of racism. The Yankee empire often demonizes those who oppose their agenda and reject their spokespersons. By demonizing us and calling us names, they do not have to think through the issues. They do not have to deal with all the Texans who have lost their jobs due to government regulations, or programs. They do not care when Texas families suffer need from natural disasters. They do not care about what happens on our borders until we talk about independence. It is when we talk about independence that they attempt slapping us down with name calling and threats. They did it in 1836, they did it in 1845 and again in 1860. The Yankee empire has often spoke disparagingly of Texas and the values we cherish, yet they are fast to want Texans to pay into their empire. As Texans we need to realize that Ken Burns is an establishment propagandist. Like Nazi film crews, he manufactures and keeps the myths of the empire going. In this case, it is the Yankee empire. He promotes the empire and its values. With visual stimulation, he deceives and distorts history in such a manner that Southerners are prejudged and condemned as the bad guys. We are ‘demonized’, our history is demonized and our heroes are ridiculed. Instead of watching Ken Burns propaganda, reject it. Reject the lies and the hate coming from this New Hampshire resident. Liberty for Texas....
